One of the many pleasures of Edenhall Estate is its distance to the Lake District. On a hot summer’s day, there is nothing better than to escape down to Ullswater, one of the Lake District’s most pristine and natural lakes, and go for a wake surf.

Wake and Surf is a convenient way for me to achieve this goal. A fun and memorable experience that I will remember from my time in England is wake surfing on Ullswater. At first, I was skeptical about my skill; I had only wake boarded and water skied, both similar, but the fact that you need to rely on wake, like surfing, opened up a new and never-experienced skill for me.

Luckily I was able to get out of the water on the first few tries, and from there, it was a matter of skillfully balancing between the boat and the top of the wake. It takes gentle adjustment, good body coordination, and proper conditions to get the hang of it, but after a decent amount of blue sky and hot weathered days, I can comfortably say I can wake surf.

An additional component to my memorable experience of wake surfing came from the beautiful location. Wake surfing with a backdrop of fells and green rolling hills makes the repetitiveness, difficulty, and cold water a bit more bearable. Patient coaches and friends also contribute to this, which I was lucky enough to have. A golden-hour, still-water wake surf is a satisfying, exhilarating, and beautiful experience that helped make my trip to the Edenhall Estate so memorable.
