I came to Edenhall shortly after completing a year abroad in Europe. I came from Belgium, a country in which I had lived in for over 10 months, of which I understood not a word of their language. I learned to order food and ask for directions, however, regardless of how hard I tried it never felt like home, and perhaps it was never meant to. But then, while nearing the completion of my year in Belgium, I was given the opportunity to visit Edenhall for a few days, an offer I was hesitant to accept, but now would never deny.
My arrival to Edenhall Estate immediately immersed me into the beauty of the English countryside, the green grass, tall trees, and stunning waters. But my stay had only begun, as I would see many more of the beauties associated with Edenhall. The wildlife in the area was a pleasant surprise, with deer feeding in a nearby field, and ducks frolicking in the lake. I don’t believe I had ever felt so at peace so quickly.
Edenhall quickly became an escape for me, from the tribulations of navigating Europe as a foreigner, from the struggles of ordering food, and the daily dispute over politics. While my stay here was brief, I loved every minute of it, and it served as a perfect bridge from my life in Europe, to my life at home. The funny yet pleasant characteristic that I noticed about the Estate, is how quickly my problems seem to settle to the back of my mind when you’re staying in this piece of paradise. A world unto itself is how I would describe it. Settled in a small town, unknown to most, and the noise, lights, and chaos of big cities and the hectic nature of life seem to fail to reach this place.
